Harry’s Redroom by Marvin’s Revenge

Welcome/welcome back to the blog! I’m sorry I’ve been gone for a few weeks. It’s been a bit hectic and draining recently, but I am back and hoping to be consistent with uploads again! Today we’re going to be talking about Marvin’s Revenge and their EP Harry’s Redroom.

I believe this is the first time I’ve listened to Marvin’s Revenge, so when they reached out and asked if I’d be up for reviewing this EP, I was stoked about it! The EP features 6 tracks and has a listening time of nearly 23 minutes.

The first track on the EP is The Other One. This track has quite a grungy sound to it, and it’s got a nice build-up within the track, which I’m thankful for. It’s not my favourite track, but it’s not bad. This is probably a mood-dependent track for me, it’s a decent track, and I like the vibe of it; I wish it had a little more something to spice up the track a bit. But as an opening track, I’m not mad at it.

Next, we have, She’s Not. Instantly, I knew I was going to prefer this track over the previous one. This track has a bit more spice and hits the spot. The vibe is on point, and I love the vibe of this track. This track has a heavier feel to it, and the track overall feels a bit more engaging for the listener, and there are some really nice elements of this track, and I’m a big fan of the vibe of this track. It has a nice feel, and I’m here for it. I also like the rougher vocals on this track, and it’s just an overall decent track. This might actually be my favourite track on the EP.

The third track in the EP comes in the form of Did U Go? again; this track has a heavier sound to it. There’s a dirty, grunge feeling on this track. I do actually really like this track. I like the dimension in the track, and I think it generally offers a nice listening experience. It’s another great track on the EP, not winning me over as much as She’s Not did, but I do still like this track a lot. I think it’s got a great vibe, and I can see myself gravitating to this track more than others on this EP. It’s short and sweet, with just over 2 minutes of listening time.

Up next, we have Surf Rock From Hell, which again, has that dark, grungy vibe to it, which is very much Marvin’s Revenge’s sound, but this track has a few more punk and rock elements to it, which I really do like. I love the vibe of this track, and I think Surf Rock From Hell gives She’s Not a run for its money.  I really like this track, and I think it has a great feel. To me, this is a mix between She’s Not and Did U Go? and I really like that. There are some really nice elements on this track, and the guitar elements of this track are the stand-out feature to me. I really do enjoy this track, and this has to be my second favourite on the EP!

The penultimate track is Hash Pringle, this has a similar vibe to The Other One, and it just leaves me wanting more. I love most EPs and LPs have the token slow tracks, and I can’t call this entire track slow because there are some nice tempo changes, and it’s got that build-up so you know the exact direction the track is going in, but I don’t see myself reaching for this track a lot. I know so many people love this vibe in a track, but I wish it were a bit more fast-paced and packed with a bit more punch. It’s also got a listening time of nearly 5 minutes, which some people will love, but it’s only in the last minute or so that I grow to love this track, it’s got such a nice tempo change, but I would have to be in the mood for this sort of track.

The final track comes in the form of Bowser Castle. This opens with a similar vibe to how The Other One ended, but better. This has that fast tempo to it that engages me, and I’m glad the EP ends on this track. I like the vibe of this track, it hits the spot for me like Surf Rock From Hell, and She’s Not did, and it does leave a good impression when the last track has that faster tempo, and it’s the sort of track you know would have a crowd having a great time to. This is one of the stronger tracks on this EP, and I do really like the vibe of this track.

Overall, I think it’s safe to say Harry’s Redroom gets 4 out of 5 lemons for me. I like this EP, and there are some great tracks on this EP. I like that it seems to be a slower-paced track followed by a faster-paced track. I do quite like that. There are some really nice elements on this EP, and if you like grunge, this will be a great EP for you, and Marvin’s Revenge could be a band for you. I like this EP, and if this is your music, I’d highly recommend listening to it and showing Marvin’s Revenge some much-deserved love. She’s Not is without a double my favourite track on this EP. If you’re looking for a track to start with, then I’d recommend making that She’s Not; whilst the intro is what I consider to be long, with the intro being nearly 50 seconds long, it’s still a good track, I find it a really engaging track to listen to and not once did I feel this track wasn’t holding my attention.
