Youth by Protect Your Heart

Welcome/welcome back to the blog! I’m so sorry I’ve been gone for so long but life just has not been it. If you follow me on socials, you may be aware of this. But either way, let’s try and make 2024 the year where I find my spark with blogging again. I intended to kick off the year with the lemon awards, but I just need to finalise a few things for that to go live. Therefore, we’re kicking the year off with our review of Youth by Protect Your Heart.

If you’re new around here, then you won’t know just how much we love PYH here, if you’ve been here before, then you’ll know that they just never disappoint. They’re one of the bands that truly have the potential to dominate the scene, their music is refined, it pushes genre boundaries, and it just hits the spot. Youth is no exception to that.

On Thursday, January 25th the lovely lads in Protect Your Heart dropped their newest single titled Youth. And, whilst I did not sob over this one like I did for Embers, I was still instantly in love with this track. There’s a slightly different feel to this track than some of the previous releases, and if I have to compare it to any of their previous tracks, it’s going to be M.I.A and Take Control. There’s a few heavier elements to this track, and the guitars on this track is a stand out feature. But, something I will always say about PYH, is that not one element overpowers the others. It’s perfectly balanced.

I love that there’s a nice little tempo change for the bridge, and it just has such a great feel to it. It’s the sort of song, you know you would lose your shit to if you heard it live. And of course, as always we have the highly relatable lyrics. It’s just a great track with a great feel to it. I absolutely adore this track, just like I adore every release from PYH.

I’m by no means saying that Youth gives Close To You, or Embers a run for their money, but it’s an absolute banger of a track. And the drums on this track as well, just truly, every element of this track is perfection. It’s met my expectations, and it’s already been in heavy rotation, and I dare say it will remain in heavy rotation.

I truly mean it, when I say PYH are a band to watch, because they truly do just keep proving how incredible they are. Kean, Anthony, Matty, Jake and Mauricio just have so much talent, and they truly are just such a phenomenal band. If you have never gave them a spin, then let Youth be a reason to give them a listen. Whilst still being a pop-punk track, it has some more punk elements than some of their other tracks, but it’s so catchy. And that’s, something I find with every release they put out, they’re catchy. If you like any of their tracks, you’re most likely going to find it stuck in your head.

I truly am so blown away by Youth, and it’s yet another Protect Your Heart track that blows me away. I cannot recommend going and giving this track a listen enough, seriously, please go show this track and the boys some much deserved love and support. I truly do mean it when I say, they continue to blow me away, and they’re genuinely some of the nicest people as well. So please, go give Youth a spin if you haven’t already, because this is another 5 out of 5 lemons track from our Californian friends, Protect Your Heart.
