I was supposed to upload on Friday, but I was really ill so chose not to, and now I’m here to give you a mega review of new music. We’re doing 6 reviews in one! So let’s get into this!
Also because there is 6 reviews these aren’t going to be like 500-700 words per song reviews, but it means I ramble less.
So Holygood is officially a band. Holygood used to be Light You Up and I absolutely adored Light You Up so when I saw all the stuff about them returning as Holygood of course I became incredibly excited.
So Holygood released their debut single Oh No! on the 22nd of February and holy hell its good (see what I did there? Sorry when the chance arises to make a pun I take it).
I can’t get this song out of my head. It’s stuck in there. And it’s incredible how catchy it is.
It’s definitely more poppy than Light You Up was but not too much that makes you disappointed. Believe me, this song really doesn’t disappoint.
The lyrics are so powerful and really do hit a place especially within today’s society and the current state of it.
It’s a song that makes you want to scream along to it, and it’s just such an incredible song and it really was worth the three year wait.
It’s a certified bop, and honestly a solid 5/5 lemons, like it’s so infectious and I love it so much. If you haven’t heard it yet, go and give it a listen and show it some love.
Where To Find Holygood
Distant Blue are back with another solid tune! Tongue Tied dropped on the 25th of February, and it’s a solid track. It’s possibly my favourite track they’ve released. It makes me excited to see them live on Saturday when they support The Mocking Jays at the Bodega.
Tongue Tied gives me a mix between Don Broco and Linkin Park vibes, and I adore it! It’s incredible. This is the sound that I stereotypically listen to so, of course, I am rating this song highly! It’s incredible and when it comes to the end of the year summary of music I’m going to keep Tongue Tied in mind because IT’S SO GOOD!
This track makes me so excited to hear what else Distant Blue are going to release.
I can also say it’s a certified bop since it still sounds decent when you increase the speed to 1.5x. I honestly love how powerful the drums are in this track but how Pete isn’t drowning out Ed. Everything on this song works perfectly together, like everything is the perfect level, nothing is drowned out and it’s such a powerful sounding song. 100% recommend this song, especially if you have a similar taste in music as I do!
Distant Blue are one of the best Notts bands in my opinion, and this song really does live up to expectations.
Solid 5.7 out of 5 sparkly lemons (hell yeah we’re bringing them back for this song! Because I can’t not because it’s just such a solid song!)
Where to Find Distant Blue
This is my first time actually mentioning Savage Sellout on my blog, but hey, they approached me on Twitter and I liked their sound so here we go, here’s a review of their new track Dice Roll.
It’s really not a bad song, and I will say that I do like the sound, and I do like the fact that the vocals aren’t drowned out by the instrumental aspects like the drums. It’s quite a nice sound, it does give me Queen of The Stone Age, slight Kaiser Chiefs and slight Red Hot Chilli Peppers vibes.
To say this is their debut single, I am really impressed. Like this is a good song, and it’s definetly a song I would happily listen to repeatedly. I’m definetly going to keep an eye out for what else they release, because this is pretty good! I do like this track.
And I can say it is a certified bop as it still sounds decent when the speed is increased to 1.5x.
Overall I’m going to give it a 4 out of 5 lemons, and I would recommend this song if you want to go and check out some new music!
Don’t Forget Rupert
Yup, they’re back with a new song! Don’t Forget Rupert have just released an incredible banger of a song called Safety Net. Since I heard this song live at Beat The Streets I’ve been excited about the release, and now it’s out it really doesn’t disappoint.
Don’t Forget Rupert really don’t have the ability to release a bad song, because this song is SO good, absolutely adore it. It’s such a catchy song, it’s probably as catchy as Get Fucked and that was a masterpiece of a song!
Hearing this song now that it’s released makes me want to go and see them live again, because there’s never too many times to see Don’t Forget Rupert especially when they keep releasing bangers like this.
If you haven’t already listened to Safety Net then I suggest you go and do it because you won’t be disappointed with this catchy tune! It’s such a good song and it’s a certified bop! So go show it some love.
Overall it’s a solid 4.5 lemons out of 5.
Best Of Enemies
THEY’RE BACK! Yes, they have finally returned and the best bit is next month they’re blessing us with a new EP, that’s an entire four tracks of blessings! And I am so ready for it.
Anyway, I’m In Hell is the new song that they’ve just dropped they released it on the 28th of February and let me just say… IT’S INCREDIBLE! You need it in your life. It’s so catchy and I love it so much. It’s one of the best songs I’ve heard in a while, and I’ve never been disappointed by anything Best Of Enemies have released, and for the fact they’re out dropping music again… yes yes yes! And one day I will see them live, but you know, kind of need them in this part of the country for that! But yeah, I adore them and they’re so good, and this song really does live up to expectations, and lives up to the other songs they’ve previously released, if this doesn’t get you excited for their new EP then I don’t know what will.
I’m In Hell is like an anthem to me, like it’s such a masterpiece and you all need it in your life. It’s one of them songs you want to scream to, and there will never be a day when Sam’s voice doesn’t compliment the instrumental aspects of the songs.
Overall it’s a solid 5 out of 5 lemons, without a doubt. No hesitation in that. Bloody love the song so much that I can’t not rate it so highly.
Where to Find Best Of Enemies
The Half Eight
I wasn’t initially excited about this release, then I saw some of the lyrics and thought eh maybe. I was wrong to not be this excited for it! It’s so good!
So if you’re unfamiliar The Half Eight released their debut EP Rose Tinted Soul and it’s incredible.
The EP opens with End It Right and this is the king of all bops! This song makes me wanna dance, it makes me want to sing my heart out. It’s full of energy and it’s just such a good song! And even just hearing this track, it made me want to see them live, and it takes a lot for me to want to see a band live, so for one track to do that, that’s absolutely incredible! Lyrically I love this song so much, and the lyrics really do mean something. And they hit me right in the feels. And of course, it’s a certified bop because it’s still incredible at speed 1.5x.
Then we move onto Timezones, and this song really hits me. Because I don’t tend to share this stuff on this blog but you know, me and the person I have feelings for have some distance between us, and yes okay we don’t live on different timezones, it’s just a 2 hour drive, it’s still distance so when there’s a song about distance, it really does end up meaning a lot to me, and for that reason I have to say that it’s my favourite song on the EP. I’m obsessed with this song currently, it’s so beautiful, it makes me feel the same way Kiss My Neck by The Mocking Jays does. It’s such a beautiful song and honestly, I adore it so much. And part way through it reminds of me of Deaf Havana song, and it’s just so incredible because yes it’s not a heavy song but they’re still depth to the sound and the lyrics have so much depth to them. If there’s one song on the EP with the ability to make me cry, it’s Timezones. And yes, it’s a certified bop. 100% a bop.
Then we move onto the closing track which is If I Had You. This is such a beautiful song again, and it just proves that this entire EP is beautiful. Again it has lyrics I can find meaning in, ones that make me feel something. Ones that make me feel emotional, and that make me want to cry because it’s beautiful how many emotions a song can make you feel. It goes from being this slow beautiful song to this increibly powerful sounding song, that engages you. And when the sound changes in the last half it almost gives me Coldplay vibes. And it’s beautiful, and like the rest of the EP it’s a certified bop.
Overall I’m giving it a 5 out of 5, it absolutely blew my mind with how incredible it is, and I’m so excited to see what The Half Eight release next.
Where to Find The Half Eight
And that is all 6 reviews, it’s been an incredible couple of weeks for new releases, and I’m so excited to see where all these bands go with future releases. Remember to check them all out and show them all some love.
