Live Review: The Mocking Jays Round 7

I went to go and see TMJ for the 7th time, and let me tell you it was an experience. I don’t want to go off topic too much, but driving in Derby… in a storm… was definitely an experience. Didn’t get lost though… just very wet.

The Mocking Jays were the headliner, with support from Kid Kapichi and The Frantics. The gig took place on the 20th of September (2018) at The Venue in Derby. It was a Radar Love event, and obviously there was a horrible storm happening at the time so the turn out wasn’t the best, but I was glad I was there, because although from my house it was about 40-45 miles (yes I put 90 miles on my car for this band), it was worth it. 100% worth it.

The support acts were pretty good, I didn’t make any notes or anything on them though, so I don’t remember much of it. But they both were pretty good and Kid Kapichi are from Hastings where as The Frantics are from Notts, so I mean was pretty cool to see another Notts band, and they were pretty good and so were Kid Kapichi although

The Mocking Jays were amazing like always though, the setlist was solid. Although internally I was crying because they played all three songs I have tattooed on my arm so…

The setlist was:

- Sex On The Beach
- Funny Bones
- Take You Home
- Close To You
- Kiss My Neck
- Edge Of Your Knife
- Tears In Summer
- I Can’t Be Without Your Love
- Cold Hands

I mean that was a solid set list, it was a set list that dreams are made of. I am very bias when it does come to TMJ because well, if you’re unaware, I rank them on a par with Twin Atlantic. I don’t fangirl over the mocks, because I’m too comfortable around them to not see them in a kind of mate ish way, but I do put them up there on that little tier that is Godly.

I was actually glad I was at that gig, and it was amazing to see the mocks again, I would happily see the mocks live every week if I could, because no matter how many people are there it’s seeing a band that are doing music because they enjoy it. I much preferred being at the gig seeing a band I love and appreciate with one of my best friends, and proving to myself that I am stronger than I like to believe. It was a nice gig to be at. And The Mocking Jays were great like always, although Sam and Alex dancing was definitely something I smiled too much at…

If you ever feel low, go see TMJ live, tends to work for me.

The set was great, the mocks are great. There wasn’t one moment of that set I didn’t love.

I say this every time, TMJ are so good live, like joint best… and I’ve seen a good amount of bands live. I even said to my mum that I’d rather see TMJ live again than another band I like who are quite big, which says a lot.

Instead of inputting loads of photos and stuff in this post, go over to TMJStans on Twitter and check out some photos and videos and FINALLY SEE THE MASCOT (that Jay told me needed a name so it’s now Stitch).
I don’t have much to say about this gig, but I will have more to say about round 8 (and I should probably stop seeing the mocks after that, but no, I am way too committed to this band).

Lemon Rating: Solid 5 out of 5 all the way

Please please please, go and show the mocks some love, because they really do deserve it.

The Mocking Jays play Ibstock Festival this Saturday and they support Cassia on the 9th of October at Rescue Rooms.

If you got this far, then I want to say a massive shout to Amber for forcing me to actually upload because some comments have been made by some people, that have made me not want to upload. But anyway, massive shout to Amber and to the mocks for being supportive.

Tune in next week for a review of the brand new TMJ single Kiss My Neck!
