Band Review: The Mocking Jays

The Mocking Jays

The Mocking JaysSource

First of all, they’re my local, smaller version of Twin Atlantic, and I could never pick between the two of them. Let’s just get that straight, because The Mocking Jays are golden and I love them. I did see them live so, I will also bring that into this review.

They’re like a dirty pop rock (slightly more on the rock side), band from Nottingham. The fact they’re from Nottingham makes me automatically love them, but I hadn’t heard of them until I saw Fast Car To Florence (Last weeks band review) as they were playing at the gig. I went to Fast Car’s gig with one of my close friends, and as soon as we heard The Mocking Jays we fell in love. I didn’t think I could ever love another band like I love Twin Atlantic, but The Mocking Jays proved me wrong.

The Mocking Jays consist of;
Jacob Smith (Vocals)
Lewis Hammond (Lead guitar)
George Ramplin (Rhythm guitar)
Alex Hather (Bass)
Sam Dorrington (Drums)

They’re just this perfect band, they have an amazing sound in which you can appreciate all five of them. And their lyrics make more sense than half of Twin Atlantic’s. That’s when you know you’re getting a good band. I would happily listen to them every day, and since Tuesday I have. Jacob has such a nice voice, and they’re all so talented! I’ve done quite a few band reviews now, and if I recommend one band out of all of them, it’s The Mocking Jays (although I do love a lot of bands). The Mocking Jays are what I want in a band. I tend to recommend bands I like to certain people, but some people I’m too scared to show The Mocking Jays to because if said people don’t like them, the friendship is over. They lack a decent taste in music. The Mocking Jays are just such a good band! If you listen to them and don’t like them, do not tell me because you’re wrong. They’re perfect.

Now as previously mentioned I saw them live at The Maze in Nottingham on the 13th of March. I’ve seen a lot of bands live, and the best I’ve seen is Twin Atlantic, The Mocking Jays come in close second with about .2 of a difference. That’s how good they are live. They put so much effort into their performance, that’s very obvious. You can tell they want to be performing live. They put on a really good show. There’s so much energy in their performance, and it’s nice to see a band enjoy themselves on stage because I’ve seen some bands who kind of force the performance and lack enthusiasm. But, that’s not the case with The Mocking Jays. I want to meet them, just so I can tell them how much I appreciate them and how much I love them. There are few bands I consider a blessing, but The Mocking Jays are one of the few. I need to see them live again, and I mean I’m willing to travel to see them… some bands I’m not that willing.

Go and listen to them, here is a link to a YouTube playlist of them live (I keep listening to this playlist because I miss them) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn4HC71HBx83Bzhq7i9nHTcHX6SZeB0Kw

I’m also going to add some of my own stuff from when I saw them live. 20180314_12153320180314_12151320180314_121544

I can’t post my video on here as it’s 4 minutes, but I did post it on my photography account on Twitter so if you want to watch the footage I got feel free https://twitter.com/mvbnphotography/status/975180733886140417

Lemon ratings:
Live- 5 out of 5 lemons
As a band- 5 out of 5 lemons… I really wish I could give more lemons.

Go check out The Mocking Jays, because they’re a beautiful band and they’re a blessing. We don’t deserve bands as good as The Mocking Jays.
